Museo de Arte de Ponce, Puerto Rico - Fundacion Luis A Ferrer.

El Museo de Arte de Ponce opened its doors on January 3, 1959 .

The first collection pieces date from 1957, when industry leader and future governor of Puerto Rico don Luis A. Ferré, acquired 24 paintings at an auction in Sothesby’s in NYC. 13 of them are still on exhibition in the Museum’s galleries.

Famous American architect, Edward Durell Stone, Frank Lloyd Wright’s disciple and creator of the Kennedy Center in D.C., was commissioned to design the present building for El Museo de Arte de Ponce. It was inaugurated in 1965.

The Museum has a selection of Latin American and Puerto Rican art, some of the pieces are from renowned artists such as Campeche, Oller, Báez, Martorell, Rodón, Coronel, and Hernández Cruz. El Museo de Arte de Ponce is the only museum in Puerto Rico accredited by the American Museums Association.

We hightly recomend when visiting Puerto Rico to visit El Museo de Arte de Ponce and also the downtown area that hold so much history.
