Under the guidance of Nephtaly
Cardona, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, the girls Perth Amboy
High School varsity basketball team, won the North Jersey
Section II Championship and moved on to play in the
State's Group 4 Semi-Finals. Kenneth Ortiz is responsible
for the City's Little League
program and works to ensure funding and participation
of city kids.
PIONEER AWARD
ANGEL MANUEL QUINONES, deceased.
The committee bestowed their highest award
to the family members of Angel Manuel Quinones, the
City's first Puerto Rican Councilman, first Latino to
hold his Real Estate license in Middlesex County, and
the first Latino to own an Insurance Agency in Middlesex
County. Mr. Quinones was a true pioneer who through
hard work opened the doors for any Latinos who came
after. (Nancy Muniz was the first Puerto Rican councilwoman
to serve in Perth Amboy and the first throughout the
State of New Jersey)
