Legendary Haitian artist Geo
Remponeau celebrated his 90th birthday on September
16 2006 at Casegha in Queens New York. The event was
organized by Mr Fritz Lafontant who is an old friend
of Remponeau and a leading member of CASEGHA-USA, which
is an Association of Former Scouts & Guides of Haiti
http://www.caseghausa.org/
Remponeau is the co-founder of the art movement in Haiti
in the 1940's and helped create the Centre d'Art in
Haiti where many artists took roots. Remponeau was joined
by his family and friends who flew in from other countries
and states to honor him.
The event was a successful collaboration of the members
of Casegha and of his family and friends. It was a step
back in time when his friends reminisced about life
in the 1940's. They recited moving poetry, testimonies
and sang old traditional scout songs. The evening was
highlighted by the abundantly delicious Haitian cuisine
which everyone seemed to enjoy.
We are all very blessed to have been there with a healthy
Pageo on his 90th birthday.
Hail to Pageo!
