The Latino Issues Convention and Expo is a unique
event, convening over 4,000 Latinos each day, from all
points of the New York metro tri-state area. The convention
is the largest indoor Latino event of its kind in the
region. The convention, as last year, was held at the
New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison,
New Jersey, a 150,000 square feet facility capable of
hosting 200 plus exhibitors and more than 10,000 visitors.
The event started with an expo-consumer show and convocation
on Friday morning with conference workshop sessions
on various issues, from education to health, and economic
development and workforce issues. The Unity Luncheon
for 1000 delegates was on Friday May 26 Invited keynote
speakers included Governor Jon Corzine, U.S. Senator
Bob Menéndez and Attorney General Zulima Farber.
The Saturday session featured exhibition booths, a
consumer show, and health clinics, major entertainment,
cultural events and food. The National Latino Folkloric
Dance Competition will be the highlight of the day.
A concert by world renowned Tuna de Segreles will be
presented as part of the cultural celebration. There
was no charge to the public.
This event was sponsored by The Latino Institute, Inc.,
a private, non-profit, charitable educational organization.
